Charmaine Mak, a graduate of ICTMCV, has had an interest in alternative therapies from an early age. Her interest in TCM stemmed from hours of watching Kung Fu movies as a child. Fascinated with the healing skills of her cinematic heroes, it prompted her to study martial arts wherein she learned about the meridians and pathways of Qi in the body. The study of martial arts led her to the spiritual path of Tibetan Buddhism where she met her root guru, Zasep Rinpoche. Upon the advice of Zasep Rinpoche, Charmaine moved to Italy where she lived for the next eight years under the guidance and instruction of, her heart guru, Geshe Jampa Gyatso. There she immersed herself in the five great texts of the Gelugpa tradition. At the close of her stay, she was again advised by Zasep Rinpoche and Geshe Jampa Gyatso to begin formal studies in TCM in order to benefit others. Upon returning to Vancouver, she began her studies in TCM. During her years in Italy, Charmaine has been treating patients with Tuina massage with the blessings and instructions of her lamas. Geshe Jampa Gyatso has also given her an oral transmission of Buddhist energy healing. In a journey that has come full circle, with the fascination of a child and the temperance of an adult, Charmaine hopes to integrate all aspects of what she has learned and continue to learn in order to benefit others.
