Ashley Alton

As a young girl, Ashley witnessed her Dad struggle with a debilitating spine disease. He suffered through the extreme pain and reduced agility that came with his condition, all the while working multiple jobs to support his family. He tried multiple therapies and medications, and consulted with a specialist, but he received little symptomatic relief. On a whim, my Mother purchased a book for him that introduced the concept of mind-body medicine; how mental and emotional imbalances affect your physical body. Reading this book lead to realizations that challenged his very world view, and for the first time in many years, his symptoms began to shift. In the years that followed, he dove head first into mind body medicine, philosophy, and eastern spirituality. Eventually, through grueling and relentless inward investigation, he overcame his disease, miraculously healing himself and not only stopping the progression of his chronic disease, but completely recovering from it.

From the age of 8, my Dad's understandings of whole-health nurtured my own; when I was confronted with illness as a little girl, he would help me understand what factors in my life were contributing to it, why I was getting sick, and I saw that this sort of inquiry lead to healing.

Ashley's own passion for contemplative studies led her to achieve a BA in Philosophy and Religious Studies. Following this, she studied for over five years at the Institute of Traditional Medicine in Toronto - earning diplomas in Acupuncture, Eastern Herbalism and Traditional Western Herbalism. She continued to explore the psyche through studies in mindfulness at both ITM and the University of Toronto, and is currently studying Contemplative Psychotherapy through the Nalanda Institute for Contemplative Science (NYC/Toronto).

Ashley's approach to healing is fundamentally holistic - using a multitude of tools from various traditions to accurately assess her client's state of health in mind, body, and spirit. Ashley creates unique treatment plans for each client, using acupuncture, body work, herbal medicines, nutrition, cupping, moxabustion, meditation teachings, and lifestyle coaching, to help facilitate healing and correct imbalances.

Ashley is a Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner (R.TCMP) with the College of TCM Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario and Traditional Western Herbalist and particularly enjoys using local, sustainable herbs with her patients.
